APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH!!!

Such a sad day for humanity when we choose to admit to our collective ineptitude by dedicating a whole month to 'Child Abuse Prevention'. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t object to the fact that we have dedicated a period in time to bring issues of 'Child Abuse' to our attention, but what I am saying is that the fact that abuses against children occur at all to even warrant the dedication of a whole month is sad.

THANK YOU GOD....

My son's bedtime prayer had us all in stitches last night.

 In Jesus name,
thank you God for our food, because we are not hungry,
thank you God that we wear our slippers so that we do not step on dirty floors,
thank you God that we do not touch electricity,
thank you God that we did not dig the sand with our hands,
thank you God that we did not fight,
         thank you God for everything,
         in Jesus name I pray.

Children,God bless them.

HOW DID WE GET HERE???

Yeah,  yeah, I guess I must admit that I've been living under a rock in the last couple of days. Indeed I've been away on a personal retreat and you know how these things work, I was totally incommunicado - which also means that I was behind on some of the Major news and events happening in our country.

So you can imagine my shock and utter disgust when I read

MY WORRIES.

I have a lot of concern for the future of our world - serious concerns.

Today, I am particularly bothered about the apparent irresponsibility in the entertainment media. The media does a lot in shaping thinking, beliefs and behaviour of people and so it is imperative that media practitioners are alive to their responsibilities.

My rant today is about childrens' entertainment.

GETTING CHILDREN TO HELP WITH HOUSEWORK

When I was growing up, doing house chores was a normal part of being a child and a member of one’s family.

As soon as we were able to handle a broom, we were given ‘our own’ little brooms and assigned to a part of the house which we had the responsibility to keep clean.

The challenges of urban living may have contributed to the fact that children these days no longer have the ‘pleasure’ of learning to do chores at home.

I can relate to the statement above, as, once the children wake up in the morning, its all systems go – the commute to school, school, homework, afterschool activities etc., and the weekend schedules are not lighter – weddings, church, meetings and visitations.......
