WATER!!!

Hello peeps, hope you are feeling cool but not too cold eh?

There has been so much information going around these days about what to do and what not to do to stay alive. Someone was telling me about an email she received on the dangers of women using soap to wash their privates and while we were discussing, she got two more emails about other health warnings. We then began to list all the don't do this don't do that emails we have received or heard about, I'm telling you it was a pretty long list and if one was to follow every advice life would be pretty miserable indeed.

There is indeed a heightened need to keep healthy in the face of all the pollution that we now face on a daily basis and that is why on Aunty  Mo's Place, we are now going to be looking at simple things we can all do to ensure that we stay healthy. Did I hear someone shout Halleluyah???

For this our inaugural healthy living post, I'd be talking about 'Water'.

Yep, you read that right, Water!!!

I know people who go on for days drinking nothing but soft drinks and fruit juices. I thought this was common in England and America, until I met an 'Auntie' who drinks diet coke mainly and probably a few sips of water occasionally.

Water is immensely beneficial to the body - apart from its obvious thirst quenching qualities.

Drinking more water helps to maintain the bodies fluid balance. About 60% of our body is made up of water and what it does is to help transport nutrients in the body, regulate temperature and ease digestion of food.

Water is to our muscles what fuel is to engines. When muscles don't get enough water they get tired so drinking water during physical activities provides energy to get the job done.

Who doesn't want clearer skin? Well drinking water helps to achieve better looking skin as it flushes out toxins from the system thereby making the skin look healthier and younger.

I remember a prayer point that was raised at one of those beginning of the year church program. It went: 'Pray that neither you or any member of your family would be rushed to India this year'. Very funny abi? But true o. Anyway, water can prevent sudden trip to India o. How? Well, drinking plenty of water helps to improve kidney function. The kidneys are the organs in the body responsible for purifying the blood by removing waste products from it and passing it as urine to the bladder. Your kidneys enough fluid to be able to do that effectively. So drink up!!!

Studies have also shown that drinking water helps to boost brain power and improve concentration, so parents are hereby encouraged to ensure that their children drink plenty of water.

Water also helps to prevent constipation, alleviate pain, relieves symptoms of cough and colds etc.

Here’s how to keep yourself hydrated: Begin by drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up, and 30 minutes before eating any big meal. Get in the habit of keeping a water bottle on hand at all times. And if you begin to get bored with the taste, you can always jazz it up with some lime or lemon juice! Before you know it, you'll be on the road to better health.

  1. Nice write up. I rarely drink pure water that is why i have been trying lately to incorporate drinks that are less sugary (i am also trying to avoid sugar). Please tell your aunty to stop drinking lots of diet coke o. It is better for her to dilute normal coke with water then consume lots of diet drinks. It has been said that the artificial sweeteners could cause cancer.
